Research connected to South Asia:

Boel Flodgren acted as the Vice-chancellor of Lund University for more than 10 years, until 31 December 2002. In this capacity she inaugurated SASNET’s Workshop on Global Networking, held in August 2001. Read her inaugural speech!
After her tenure as Vice-chancellor she returned to her professorial position at the Dept. of Business Law, and she has since intitiated a new research project on Global Trade, and the legal consequences of globalization. The project includes studies on India, and comparative studies between India and China.

In November 2003 Boel Flodgren got a one-year planning grant from Sida/SAREC for the project called ”Law and Development – Establishing a new Research Environment in Sweden”, focusing on India. See full list of South Asia related research projects that were given Sida/SAREC planning grants in November 2003.

The Department as a whole also strives to build a research environment where the development of law in the global economy should become a focal point. Therefore a symposium on “Legal Perspectives in a Global Business Environment” was arranged 19–20 August 2004, providing a platform for legal scholars (including PhD candidates), legal practitioners and other interested colleagues to explore and discuss new research and legal practice within the field. It will be a two-day event comprising of keynote speeches and discussion based workshops exploring the topic both at a general level and in the specific fields of corporate governance, financial reporting, international contract law, taxation, labour law, investment and intellectual property rights. The aim is to contribute to a deeper theoretical and practical understanding of the role of legal institutions and legal rules in today’s global economy, how legal systems are interconnected and if so, how national legal systems are developing according to the general principles from the global “arena”.
Contributions to the 2004 international conference have been published in ”Corporate and Employment Perspectives in a Global Business Environment”, in the Kluwer Law international series Bulletin of Comparative Labour Relations 60, Kluwer Law International 2006.

In 2007, Boel Flodgren published an article (in Swedish) titled ”Handelsrätten i globaliseringen – Harmonisering eller ’The Battle of the Laws?’”(”Commercial Law and Globalization – Harmonization or ’The Battle of the Laws?’”) in the Liber Amicorum (Vänbok) to Lars Gorton, Juristförlaget i Lund.
