Collaboration with South Asia

Dr. Fredrik Tufvesson defended his doctoral thesis titled ”Design of Wireless Communication Systems – Issues on Synchronization, Channel Estimation and Multi-Carrier Systems” at the department in 2000. He is now working mostly on channel measurements and modeling for MIMO- and UWB systems, but his research interests also include channel estimation and synchronization problems for wireless communication, especially for wireless OFDM systems.
He is in charge of the International Masters programme in Wireless Communications.

A collaboration project has been established between the department and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi, India.
The collaboration project has got financial support from the Swedish International Programme Office for Education and Training (Internationella programkontoret) in the form of a Linnaeus-Palme International Exchange Programme grant. The grant was first given in March 2007, for exchange activities involving sending teachers and students both ways from 2007-08. More information about the Linnaeus Palme grants 2007.

In May 2009, the Ambassador of India to Sweden, Mr. Balkrishna Shetty visited the department as part of a one-day visit to Lund University (fully organised by SASNET). He met with Prof. Ove Edfors, and the Indian second year Masters student Srikanth Gopal, studying in the MSc programme on Wireless Communications (see above). More information about the Ambassador’s visit.

The department keeps informal research contacts in the area of wireless communication with a former PhD student, Shurjeel Wyne who works as Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology in Islamabad, Pakistan. new

Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window Programme scholarship

SushmitaA large number of Indian students, PhD candidates, post-docs and academic staff came to Lund University during the academic year 2009-10, as scholarship holders through the Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window mobility programme Lot 15, coordinated by Lund University. This programme was announced in 2008, and out of a total mobility of 320 persons, 53 Indian students, researchers and academic staff were selected to come specifically to Lund University. More information about the EMECW programme lot 15 (from 2009 renamed to be one out of four programmes under the mobility lot 13).

Dr. Sushmita Ruj was selected to work as a Post Doc Fellow at the Dept. of Electrical and Information Technology for a year. She came from the Cryptology Research group, Applied Statistics Unit at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata, India, where she completed her PhD. Her main areas of research interest are Combinatorics, Cryptology, Coding theory and Graph Theory. More specifically she works in combinatorial designs, key management, and Network security. She has been involved in a project on cryptanalysis of stream ciphers. She has now moved on the US.
