Research connected to South Asia

The division has collaborated for many years with the Dept of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, at Chennai, India (represented by Dr Sarit K. Das).
They have worked on a major project on ”Experimental and Numerical Simulation of The Dynamic Response of Plate Heat Exchangers”. The project consists of experimental tests on heat transfer and fall in pressure in Plate heat exchangers in India, combinde with numerical analyses at the divivion in Lund. The levels of knowledge and competence are supposed to grow through this Indo-Swedish co-operation project. In November 2002 this project was given a Swedish Research Links (Asian–Swedish research partnership programme) grant on 550 000 SEK for three years (2003-05) by Sida and the Swedish Research Council.

A post-doc from IIT in Chennai worked at the department in Lund during 2005-2006.

More recently, cooperation projects have started between the division and other Indian institutes: in January 2008, a first joint workshop was arranged with the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi, on Compact Heat Exchangers. Contact person: Associate Professor Sanjeev Jain. A new workshop was organised 8–9 January 2010 at IIT Delhi, convened by Dr. B. Premachandran, IIT Delhi. The workshop was entited ”Advances in Small Scale Heat Exchangers & Fuel Cell Thermal Management for Process, IT, and Energy Industries”.
A short symposium on Fuel Cell Technology was also arranged in January 2009 in cooperation with Jadavpur University in Kolkata.

The department also has and has had a number of Pakistani PhD students financed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) – more information on this programme. new
