2001:

Inaugural ceremony performed at SASNET root node office in Lund at January 26, 2001. Staffan Lindberg (co-ordinator), Boel Billgren (member SASNET Board) and Bubu Munshi-Eklund (pujari).

22 January: SASNET root node office starts functioning

January-June: Constructing SASNET's Internet gateway to South Asian Studies. Inauguration of the web site in August.

27 April: Decisions presented on the first SASNET planning grants.

June: Appointment of SASNET's board.

27-28 August: SASNET workshop in Lund: Global networking in South Asian studies between Sweden and South Asia.

29 August: First meeting of SASNET board.
Staffan Lindberg appointed as SASNET Director/co-ordinator for a period till 31 December 2003. Lars Eklund appointed webmaster/programme secretary for the same period.

2002

24 January: Second meeting of SASNET board.

24 January: Decisions upon the second round of SASNET planning and networking grants

25 February–23 March: Staffan Lindberg and Lars Eklund on contact journey to four countries in South Asia.

22 April: Application to Sida/Sarec concerning a continuation of SASNET for the years 2003–2006

27 August: Third meeting of SASNET board.

27 August: Decisions upon the third round of SASNET planning and networking grants

SASNET Director Prof. Staffan Lindberg together with Prof. em. Dietmar Rothermund from South Asia Institute at the conference in Heidelberg.

9–14 September: Staffan Lindberg and Lars Eklund visited the 17th European Conference on Modern South Asian Studies, at Heidelberg, Germany

30 September: Funding of SASNET for the period 2003–2005: Sida has decided to give an annual grant of 1.65 million SEK. Lund University gives an annual grant of 0.55 million SEK.

25–27 October: SASNET symposium for PhD candidates and post-docs, arranged at Marstrand.

15 November: 19 applications received for the fourth round of SASNET planning and networking grants. Decisions on 28 January, 2003.

2003

28 January: Fourth meeting of SASNET board

20 April: Last date for applications to the Masters course in South Asian studies at Lund University. Course starts in September.

15 June: Last date for applications for the fifth round of SASNET planning and networking grants.

30 June: Closing date for panels suggestions to the 18th EASAS conference in Lund 2004.

August: Fifth meeting of SASNET board. Appointment of new board and Director for the period 2004–2006, and Webmaster for the period 2004–2005.

20 November – 6 December: Staffan Lindberg and Lars Eklund on contact journey to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

2004

6 January: Last date for registration for participants who whish to submit abstracts in order to secure funding for the 18th ECMSAS conference in Lund 2004

1 April: Last date for registration for other participants to the 18th ECMSAS conference in Lund 2004

6–9 July: SASNET arranged the the 18th European Conference on Modern South Asian Studies at Lund University

2005

Spring: A self-evaluation was carried out during the period November 2004 – March 2004, followed by an external expert evaluation during April – June 2005. The evaluation team, consisting of Prof. Carla Risseeuw, Prof. Ghanshyam Shah and Director Lennart Wohlgemuth, visited the SASNET root node at Lund; Sida/SAREC and the Foreign Ministry in Stockholm, and whichever SASNET partners they would like to meet with (Uppsala, Karlstad, Göteborg, etc.). A joint consultation between SASNET personnel, external experts, Lund University and Sida SAREC should take place in June 2005. Finally a report was submitted to SASNET, Sida SAREC and Lund University. Read the final evaluation report.

30 August: Ninth meeting of SASNET board. Appointment of Webmaster for the period 2006 – 2008

September: SASNET applied to Sida SAREC and Lund University for funding during the period 2006 – 2008.
